Essay on Geula

Over the chag I learned Ramchal's

maamar hageulah a couple more times. It's an amazing essay. It's about

the two meshiachs and what it says in the yaale v'yavo prayer, 'yipaked

v'yizacher'. I hope you enjoy it. So here goes...

The pekida comes before the zechira. The pekida is meshiach ben yoseph

and is related to yesod and is the tikkun of the soul. The zechira is

meshiach ben david and is related to tiferet and is the tikkun of the body.

This is the final geula. First the shechina is connected to the yesod and then

to tiferet.

So the Ramchal says that the biblical kingdom of yehudah had two tribes

while the kingdom of israel (yoseph) had ten tribes. Now meshiach ben

yoseph comes to deliver the TWO tribes and meshiach ben david comes to

deliver the TEN tribes. This is the meaning of the prophecy in Ezekiel 37,

with the two trees, one which says yehudah and one which say yoseph and

the prophet is told to bring them close each one to each other so that they

will become One in your hand. Each one is delivered by its opposite. This

is a universal spiritual law: Everything is completed by its opposite or

complement. The completion of the male is the female, and the completion

of the female is the male. Torah is perfected by science, and science is

perfected by Torah. This is true on an idividual level where one's soul is

completed by a healthy body and one's body is completed by a healthy soul.

But it is also true one a national level.

Now like in biblical times the Jewish people and split in two. You can say

one general split is the religious (dati) and non religious (chiloni). Like

then the non religious is the majority and thus are like the kingdom of

yisrael-yoseph. The minority religous camp is like the kingdom of yehuda.

The ten tribes of yisrael weren't torah abiding from the begining whereas

the two tribes were until just before the destruction of the first temple.

It's possible to say also that the religious camp (yehuda) is concerned with

matters of the soul mostly, while the secular camp (yoseph) deals with

mostly bodily concerns. So according to the Ramchal, the salvation of the

religious camp, the geula of the soul is through meshiach ben yoseph - the

secular ideal. And the salvation of the secular camp, the geulah of the body

is through meshiach ben david - the spiritual or religous ideal.

So, meshiach ben yoseph comes first and according to the Gra is the 250

years between 1740 and 1990, and also according to the Ramchal who

writes that meshiach ben yoseph is killed right after noon of the sixth day

(millenium) which is the hebrew year 5750 or the secular year1990.

His mission is ingathering the exile and building eretz yisrael and the

revelation of the secrets of the Torah. Much of this has been accomplished

already and what's more is that most of the bringing in the exiles and

building the land has been accomplished by non religious people! And this

is the tikkun of the soul - the tikkun for the religious people who need the

physical eretz yisrael to ground their spiritual wealth!

Now we're moving into the realm of meshiach ben david who saves yoseph,

the secular people. They are like the body of Israel and their tikkun is to

emprace their spiritual side. This has also started to happen. Kabbalah is

becoming more and more popular and many secular people are turning to

spiritual persuits. So eventual both the soul and the body of Israel are

completed: The soul of Israel is completed by the body and the body of

Israel is completed by the soul.

If we take a broader look at this process we find that the Jewish people and

like the soul to the rest of mankind who are like the body. Rav Kook wrote

that meshiach ben yoseph is the nationalism of Israel which is not the

ultimate goal. Meshiach ben david is the ultimate goal and that is the

unification of all of humanity into one family where all call in the Name of

G-d. Before we can move into the ultimate goal the nationalist ideal has to

be taken apart somewhat because it is lacking because it has too much love

of the specific. In order to move into meshiach ben david consciousness

which is general-universal the specific-nationalist meschiach ben yoseph

has to "die". The people of Israel granted a homeland in eretz yisrael by

the nations of the world is the tikkun of the soul of humanity. Now it is the

time for people of the soul to unite with the rest of mankind to bring about

the tikkun of the body of humanity. For the whole world to find their souls

and connect to their spiritual sides and build the third beit hamikdash

which is the house of G-d for all the nations.
